Vegetable Garden

We started an organic vegetable garden in our backyard. We fertilize with only organics and we do not use any pestisides or chemicals as well as the use of rain water to water our garden.

Put your paper towels under the sink and invest in organic cotton or flour sack towels.

My husband and I noticed a couple of years ago that we were using a lot of paper towels. In an attempt to cut down on our waste, we moved the roll of paper towels from the counter and mounted a paper towel holder to the inside of the cabinet door. We then invested in organic cotton and flour sack towels. They are not just great for drying your hands but also work really well for drying dishes and even wiping the counter. Then they can just be thrown in the wash with your towels! We now use about 1 roll of paper towels every four months.

Use rain water to water your garden

I have rain barrels that collect the water when it rains.  I use the water to water my garden.  It saves on water consumption and on my water bill.   And the water is better for my garden!

Carry reusable bags...

I carry reusable bags with me at all times.  Everytime I shop I have them bag my things in my bag.  Imagine if we all shift to bringing their own bags. Now that's going to make some difference on the environment.

Less trips to store

We make sure to limit our travel to stores. We also consolidate our efforts to save on water by not using the washer and dryer during high use times in the city.

Ride Your Bike

I ride my bike to work everyday, and use alternative transportation for just about every trip around town. It isn't very difficult; just plan ahead.
