There is a Big #1Thing brewing in Los Angeles thanks to T.K. Devine (35). Devine is the founder of the Porta-Home and is converting portable toliets into portable homes, including one built for himself. He believes it’s a great way to help the homeless, who are living it rough on the streets and many trying to make a better life for themselves. They need consistency and a good night’s sleep. A solution for Los Angeles housing crisis.
This is where a Porta-Home comes in handy. It’s a unit that was originally built for those with disabilities, so it’s larger. The toilet is removed which allows room for a bed as big as a twin size. When the bed is folded up it’s the kitchen area w/ a mini-fridge that is under the bed when not in use. When you have to do your biz, you walk around back to an atatched shower unit where recycled water irrigates a top-level garden near solar panels that power the home. The system rests on a trailer and can be parked on any residential property w/ the only hookup needed is a water hose. Devine says it will cost around $20,000 per unit!
T.K. Devine plans to take it on a year long tour around Los Angeles living in one himself. You can follow his adventure here. Tiny homes! Big Solutions w/ ‘Our Own Home BackYard Homes’
